〈作於鄉村墓園的哀歌〉

誇耀家族紋章，炫示世俗權力

以及所有之美、所有得之於人的財富

同樣等待著那無可避免的時刻：

只通向墳墓的榮耀之路。

The boast of heraldry, the pomp of power,

And all that beauty, all the wealth e’er gave,

Awaits alike the inevitable hour.

The paths of glory lead but to the grave.
